We are happy to announce one of the biggest release updates to the iOS version of RocketRoute FlightPlan App. Version 6.7.0 updates include the following features:
NOTAMs will be downloaded automatically, globally, every 30 mins when the app is active and connected to Wi-Fi. The timestamp will show the time of the last download (for safety reasons).
NOTAMs are geo-located on the map, with a circle denoting the effective area if that data is supplied by the source.
Obstacles and FIR NOTAMs can be suppressed easily via the Map Menu, which is very important as these are the main sources of clutter for certain types of flying. NOTAMs that are not active yet can also be suppressed from view.
The color of the NOTAM circles can be set, in order to compliment the base map underneath the user that is selected.
On Screen Ruler
Tapping with two fingers on the map activates the new ruler tool, which shows distance and bearing information. Easily adjust either end of the ruler or click anywhere on the map to hide the ruler feature. Distances are shown in nautical miles, kilometers, and statute miles.
A long press on the text box allows the user to move the ruler around on the map to manipulate position, length, and angle after the initial line creation. The ruler is a great tool for figuring the distance to the nearest airport or aircraft range.
GPS Accuracy Tolerance Settings for Own Ship Position
A GIF image shows how the aircraft icon is being lost when the GPS accuracy is under the user-specified limits.
The own ship icon is hidden from view, given the accuracy of the GPS device info received to the app falls below a user set threshold. A safety feature, hiding the ship position when it cannot be relied on, according to the user's acceptable limits.
