We recognise the importance of having a full understanding of all the inputs during the flight planning stage, to ensure flight plans are compliant with ATC requirements. Our latest update introduces the complete differentiation of 'Initial Flight Level' from 'Target Flight Level'. Read below to find out more.
Target FL vs Initial FL
The main goal of separating the Initial Flight Level (Initial FL) from the Target Flight Level (Target FL) is to help users to clearly distinguish between these two input criteria.
Now when preparing a new flight, a user will be able to set the Target FL and Initial FL. How do these two inputs differ from each other?
TARGET FL:
Target FL represents the Flight Level that the system will attempt to find a route at. Calculated values are shown in the black section above the route box (see image above).
TARGET SPEED:
Target Speed represents the Preferred Cruise airspeed that will be used by RocketRoute's Autorouter to find a valid route. If you have advanced data for your aircraft, our system will automatically calculate and insert the airspeed based on the selected performance profile and actual ISA temperature.
INITIAL FL:
Initial FL represents the Flight Level of the first Cruise segment. Calculated values are shown in the grey section in the route box.
INITIAL AIRSPEED:
Initial Airspeed represents the Cruise True Airspeed (TAS) after reaching the Top of Climb (TOC) point. Calculated values are shown in the grey section in the route box.

Before and After: Latest version where Target FL has been separated from the Initial FL. Note that Target Speed and Initial Airspeed are also separated into two different inputs.
