Add STAY command to Flight Plans

STAY Command is one of those obscure Flight Planning commands to use when filing an ICAO flight plan - but is very helpful for almost every pilot and flight planner.

Example types of flights that will require a STAY command include:

• Reconnaissance
• Surveys
• Aerial Displays
• Sightseeing
• Instructional
• Demo Flights
• Forming a Formation Flight

The STAY command adds into the Flight Plan a period for which you want to fly close to a given waypoint/location for any number of minutes.

You can add multiple STAY points into a single Flight Plan. You can also use STAY command for IFR and VFR flight planning.

Step 1. Create a VFR/IFR route

Create a route and flight plan as you normally would, using the RocketRoute system. Select your aircraft, airport of departure and destination.

In the route box you need to specify the way points for staying that you would like to include in your route.

Please note the format of mentioning a way point is the following:

WPT STAY1/HHMM WPT

Our example has the following route:

DCT CERVI STAY1/0005 CERVI DCT BIBAN STAY2/0010 BIBAN DCT ORSUD STAY3/0010 ORSUD DCT

this means you need to specify the following: Name of the way point then STAY1 (sequence number of a stay)/endurance of the planned stay and again the name of the waypoint.

Step 2. Add STAYINFO1/ to Field 18

Click to expand the Field 18 section on the Route page. Add a remark that would reveal the number of way points where you are planning to go around.

Now you are ready to file a flight plan.

Step 3. File Flight plan

Here you can see an example of a flight log. All STAY points are indicated, fuel consumption and time endurance are calculated for these points as well.
