History of the Citation CJ4

With the designation Cessna 525C, the CJ4 is a stretched and enhanced derivative of the CJ3 and ultimately a descendant of the original CitationJet. The aircraft was announced at NBAA in October 2006 with the prototype flight taking place on May 2008 and the first production CJ4 flew in May 2009. FAA certification was awarded in March 2010 and the first delivery was the following month. The aircraft made an EBACE debut in May 2010 and received EASA certification in May 2011.

Advanced Technology

The largest of today’s extended CitationJet derivatives is also the most up-to-date with equipment and technology. Earlier in 2013 Cessna requalified its lithium-ion batteries underlining the jet maker’s confidence in these sources.

Cessna remains the only business aviation or general aviation manufacturer that has publicly committed to switching to these batteries as a power source on aircraft and after the reintroduction of the CJ4 the batteries are being added to the larger Citation aircraft such as the new X and the Sovereign. There are plenty of advantages for operators selecting the CJ4. It is approved for single-pilot operations and shares a common pilot type rating with the other CJs (a pilot rated to fly any one of the CJs is rated to fly them all).

Aircraft Performance Data

The CJ4 has a range of 2,002 nautical miles (3,710 kilometers) and a top speed of 453 knots (839 kilometers an hour). The aircraft has a takeoff roll of 3,310 feet (954 meters) at maximum takeoff weight. The CJ4 is powered by two Williams International FJ44-4A full authority digital engine control engines and features a four-screen Collins Pro Line 21 avionics suite.

Avionics

The flight deck features the Rockwell Collins Pro Line 21 avionics, MultiScanTM Hazard Detection System, and the company’s award-winning Venue High Definition Cabin Management System is also on the aircraft. The fully integrated Pro Line 21 avionics have been taken to new levels of user-friendliness and intuitive understanding. The package features four huge 8 x 10-inch AMLCD color displays teamed with dual Control Display Units (CDUs) forward of the throttle quadrant. And while the pilot workload has been reduced, the cockpit is highly conducive to the work that is required.
